My reading has kind of died in the new year. Which is weird, because I was on SUCH the kick last month! Maybe I’m just dragging because the holidays are over and I’m really sad that it’s just boring snow outside until Spring comes. Haha I have high hopes for this year’s reading…. 30 BOOKS! I repeat… 30!! I know… I know… I originally made a goal to read 20, but then last year I read 19 and my goal was 15… so I jumped a bit high this year!!! I’m nervous. I don’t think I’m gonna make it! I know it’s not about the goal but it’s fun and I want to read more!
On My Nightstand:
One By One by David A. Bednar — This book is still on my TBR list… I haven’t touched it and I feel terrible. It’s just scripture heavy and I don’t know that I’m ready to dive into that yet.
Moroni’s Guide to Surviving Turbulent Times by John Bytheway — I had high hopes for this book but it just doesn’t seem like my kind of cookie. I’ll have to see if I can power through it.
Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard — I got this book for Christmas! I’ve wanted to read it but a few people have said that it’s okay so hopefully, it isn’t a complete let-down.
Every Ugly Word by Aimee L. Salter — I had this book on my TBR list but downloaded it to my Kindle via my subscription to unlimited eBooks via Amazon. Anyway, I wasn’t in the mood to read a physical book and wanted to read an e-something so this one was it. I did NOT expect to get so sucked in from the first chapter. I literally sat on the couch around 9:30 PM and finished this book at 2:00 AM. I’ve never done that with a book before and I honestly can’t even explain my emotions about it. It was so interesting, sad, weird, confusing, powerful and just… I don’t know. It was a good book and there were points that I felt very connected but I didn’t understand much of the ending and it just kind of left me feeling…. hmph. I don’t know! Haha it was cool to read a book with my name as the main character or even as A character… but that’s it. Haha!!

Starting — I am starting many things! I am starting a weight loss challenge, I am starting to read many more books for my 2018 goal! I am starting to feel happier each day! I’m starting to feel more at home here in our new place, though I do miss my family dearly!!! I’m also starting this new blog. I’ll be keeping my family names private from here on out by using their first initial only! I know some people know their names already but I figure I would start out by doing that!
Hoping — I am hoping for some sort of miracle to lose weight that I’ve been carrying around for about 3 years now. I am hoping that Brady and I will grow closer in happiness and I hope that this year turns out really well for us :) We are also hoping to start Dave Ramsey’s FPU this year and start working on tackling our debt!
Scheduling — You can see in the photo above, this is my weekly spread for the first week of January. I don’t have many things written in it yet but I will fill it in as it comes! I love planner stickers, washi tape, and just all things planner and bullet journaling. I’ll be scheduling doctor appointments, dentist appointments and trips to visit home! Also, hopefully some vacations this year!!
Reading — My reading goal for 2018 is 20 books. BUT I’ve almost reached 20 books in 2017 ALONE!!! So I’m hoping for maybe 30 books this year. It’s going to be so great! I’ll have a lot of more time this year.
Playing — oh my gosh. Brady and I LOVE playing the Bob Ross board game. It’s seriously SO fun!! We also love playing Ticket to Ride and Sushi Go! :) We’re a board game kind of family. I’m also listening to Taylor Swift’s new album… it’s growing on me quickly. She’s a queen and everything she does is solid!
These are just a few things that I’m currently up to, but I know there will be more going on this month! Hopefully I’ll be able to create a habit of exercise and eating better foods than what I am right now.

It’s really easy to come up with goal ideas and things I’d like to accomplish. I could create goal lists that include tons of different things. But I think setting TOO many goals can defeat the purpose of having goals. <– in my case.
I know there are a few things that I’d like to work on for my physical health and I’m going to list them here and probably add to the list as I feel like it. If I try to focus on too many I may not even focus on any at all! Of course, I want to lose weight (who doesn’t!), but I know that if my sole focus is how I “need” to lose weight, I won’t really do my best in getting there. I’m going to do some Tone It Up workouts. I bought Karena and Katrina’s book from Barnes and Noble and I’m excited to jump in! I really like how they coach!
Here are some things that I’d like to work on:
- Strengthening my wrists – good grief! My wrists are so weak!
- Holding a plank for 30-60 seconds
- Stretching before starting a workout
- Utilizing my 5lb weights and possibly getting 10lb weights
- Stretching after my workout
- Controlling my breathing during a workout – in my nose, out my mouth
- Drinking a lot of water during the day – not just during a workout
- LITERALLY only taking 15-20 second breaks between workouts
- Researching forms on specific circuit exercises – like how to do a lung correctly
I think those are some good goals/ideas of what to work on for January! Wish me luck!
