Reading Lately: vol. 1

January 9, 2018

My reading has kind of died in the new year. Which is weird, because I was on SUCH the kick last month! Maybe I’m just dragging because the holidays are over and I’m really sad that it’s just boring snow outside until Spring comes. Haha I have high hopes for this year’s reading…. 30 BOOKS! I repeat… 30!! I know… I know… I originally made a goal to read 20, but then last year I read 19 and my goal was 15… so I jumped a bit high this year!!! I’m nervous. I don’t think I’m gonna make it! I know it’s not about the goal but it’s fun and I want to read more!

On My Nightstand:

One By One by David A. Bednar — This book is still on my TBR list… I haven’t touched it and I feel terrible. It’s just scripture heavy and I don’t know that I’m ready to dive into that yet.

Moroni’s Guide to Surviving Turbulent Times by John Bytheway — I had high hopes for this book but it just doesn’t seem like my kind of cookie. I’ll have to see if I can power through it.

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard — I got this book for Christmas! I’ve wanted to read it but a few people have said that it’s okay so hopefully, it isn’t a complete let-down.

Recently Read:

Every Ugly Word by Aimee L. Salter — I had this book on my TBR list but downloaded it to my Kindle via my subscription to unlimited eBooks via Amazon. Anyway, I wasn’t in the mood to read a physical book and wanted to read an e-something so this one was it. I did NOT expect to get so sucked in from the first chapter. I literally sat on the couch around 9:30 PM and finished this book at 2:00 AM. I’ve never done that with a book before and I honestly can’t even explain my emotions about it. It was so interesting, sad, weird, confusing, powerful and just… I don’t know. It was a good book and there were points that I felt very connected but I didn’t understand much of the ending and it just kind of left me feeling…. hmph. I don’t know! Haha it was cool to read a book with my name as the main character or even as A character… but that’s it. Haha!!

I hope you get your reading groove back! I have a friend that really likes Red Queen, so hopefully it’ll be enjoyable for you. :)

Ebb and flow, ebb and flow. I know the feeling of being out of the reading groove quite well. Hope it gets better for you!

Oh – I know what you mean on losing the reading groove. Last year was my slump but I’m hopeful for 2018! :) I hope it gets better for you! I have to do books like One by One a little bit at a time – I have a couple of them on my nightstand and use them in place of a Bible study.

Reading ruts are the worst. I feel like I sometimes get in a rut after a really great reading month, and it sounds like that may be the case for you as well. I hope you can get your reading groove back soon!

I also kept pushing my total reading goal up a bit each year after I hit 50 books in 2015. That had been my goal for years, so finally hitting it (and actually exceeding it!) was amazing! Last year I was just under my goal of 70 (I finished 69), so I kept my goal at 70 again this year. I hope you hit your goal of 30 this year!

Good luck reaching your reading goal this year! Every Ugly Word sounds like a good read.
